“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
- Mahatma Gandhi
Deeply inspired by these life-altering words, Avighna is committed to building and supporting the community through social responsibility. Avighna views its contribution to environmental, social, and health progress as an investment in the nation’s future. The company strives to provide extensive support for community programs in the areas of health care, education, and community development across the country.
As a socially conscious corporation, the mission statement is “to lend a helping hand to the underserved in our society through the support of women, children, and elders in the areas of health and education.” Avighna’s initiatives do just that. Whether it’s organizing health camps to treat widespread blindness or supporting social improvement programs through Tribal Integrated Development and Education Trust (TIDE), Avighna is an ethically sound corporation taking social responsibility to heart.
The corporation’s aim is to improve the quality and availability of health care in underdeveloped areas of the country as well as in the core of the city of Mumbai. Some of the initiatives include providing financial assistance to patients in need of care as well as creating health camps for vaccinations and eye camp treatment of preventable blindness through cataract surgery. Funding of the renovation of the ICU at St. Georges Hospital provided a much-needed overhaul to upgrade equipment and provide the best care possible to thousands of patients using this central hospital.
It’s been said that, “it takes a village to raise a child.” Avighna realizes the importance of providing education and resources that ensure a bright future rich with opportunity. The company works to expose students to rural technology, teaching them useful skills and tools to assist them in their daily work. Through the Integrated Child Development Scheme, the company offers extra classes to children in Banaskantha and Patan districts, encouraging them to continue their education in high school. Avighna also provides literacy support to women aged 15-50 and assists new mothers by training Dais (traditional birth attendants) and spreading awareness of health care practices to the masses.
In order to assist the growth of communities, the company (through TIDE) distributes vegetable seed packets for farming and has developed water conservation infrastructures for farming and clean drinking water. By contributing to environmental devastation relief, communities are able to rebuild and recover from tragic loss. In order to preserve indigenous faith and folk arts, changes to communities are in line with traditional belief systems. These community development projects also honor women; for instance, the construction of changing rooms at the holy river of Ganga continues to ensure women are able to maintain modesty as they participate in this sacred act.
